PROCHECK INTEGRITY GUIDE
Check. Review. Submit responsibly.
ProCheck provides similarity, AI-detection and related document-analysis tools intended to assist users in reviewing their work before submission.
What a ProCheck report means
ProCheck reports are informational tools and are not determinations of plagiarism, academic misconduct, authorship, or unauthorised use of artificial intelligence. A report, score, percentage, flag or other result generated by ProCheck does not constitute a finding of misconduct and should not be represented as such.
Academic institutions, examination bodies, publishers, employers and other relevant authorities establish their own rules and standards. The applicable institution or authority remains solely responsible for determining whether conduct or submitted work complies with its applicable requirements.
Users remain responsible for reviewing their work and ensuring that their final submission complies with all applicable academic, professional, legal and institutional requirements.
4 GOLDEN RULES
1
Upload only material you are authorised to use
You must only upload documents, text or other material that you own, have created, or are otherwise legally authorised to submit to ProCheck.
Where material belongs to another person or organisation, you are responsible for obtaining any permission or authorisation required before uploading it.
2
Follow the rules that apply to you
You are responsible for understanding and complying with your institution's or organisation's requirements concerning:
plagiarism and academic integrity;
referencing and citation;
artificial intelligence and AI-assisted writing;
disclosure of AI use;
authorship and originality;
confidentiality; and
submission requirements.
ProCheck does not determine which rules apply to you and does not guarantee that using any ProCheck service will satisfy the requirements of a particular institution or organisation.
3
Review your report carefully
Reports should be reviewed in context. Where applicable, you should examine:
highlighted similarities;
identified sources;
quotations;
references and citations;
factual claims;
terminology;
formatting; and
any AI-related indicators or flags.
You should use your own judgement, research and applicable institutional guidance when deciding whether changes are appropriate.
4
Do not treat a score as proof
A similarity percentage, AI-detection score, confidence indicator or other automated result is not, by itself, proof of plagiarism, misconduct, authorship, or AI use.
A high similarity result may contain legitimate quotations, references, commonly used terminology, standard phrases or appropriately cited material.
A low similarity result does not establish that a document is original or free from plagiarism.
An AI-detection result may produce inaccurate or inconclusive results.
An AI-related flag does not establish that a particular person used AI to create the material.
Accordingly, ProCheck does not represent that any particular score constitutes a definitive finding about a document or its author.
Common scenarios
“The AI score is high, but I wrote the work myself.”
Automated AI-detection systems can produce inaccurate, inconclusive or disputed results. Review the report alongside your original work and, where appropriate, retain drafts, notes, research materials and other evidence of your writing process.
If your institution permits you to challenge or explain an AI-detection result, follow its prescribed procedure.
“My similarity score is high.”
A similarity result identifies textual or other matches; it does not automatically establish plagiarism.
Review the relevant matches individually. Some matches may arise from quotations, references, technical terminology, standard wording, previously published material or properly acknowledged sources.
You remain responsible for ensuring that sources are appropriately acknowledged and that your work complies with applicable requirements.
“I used AI to help me.”
You are responsible for determining whether your use of AI is permitted under the rules applicable to your work.
Where disclosure, acknowledgement or citation is required, you are responsible for making the required disclosure.
Editing, rewriting or processing AI-assisted material through ProCheck does not transfer responsibility for that material to ProCheck and does not, by itself, establish compliance with an institution's AI policy.
“The refined version changed my meaning.”
Automated or assisted refinement can alter wording, emphasis or meaning.
Always compare a refined version against your original and verify:
meaning and arguments;
factual information;
technical terminology;
quotations;
citations;
references; and
any other material requirements.
You remain responsible for the final version of any document you submit.
“I want to upload someone else's document.”
Do not upload another person's work unless you have the necessary permission or other lawful authority to do so.
You are responsible for ensuring that your use of uploaded material does not infringe another person's intellectual property, confidentiality, privacy or other legal rights.
“My paid check failed.”
Where a paid check cannot be completed because of a confirmed technical failure attributable to ProCheck, the applicable check or credit may be restored in accordance with ProCheck's refund and credit policy.
Technical failures do not include unsupported file types, corrupted files, incomplete uploads, user-side connectivity problems or other circumstances outside ProCheck's reasonable control unless otherwise stated in the applicable service terms.
Automated results may contain errors, false positives, false negatives or other inaccuracies.
ProCheck does not determine whether a user has committed plagiarism or academic misconduct.
ProCheck does not determine whether a particular institution will accept, reject or otherwise act upon a document or report.
You are responsible for reviewing your results and making your own decisions regarding your work.
You are responsible for complying with the rules applicable to your submission.
You are responsible for the accuracy, originality, authorship, citations and lawful use of the material you submit.
ProCheck does not guarantee any particular similarity percentage, AI-detection result, academic outcome, grade, acceptance decision or institutional outcome.

ProCheck will not state that documents are “not stored”, “not indexed” or “never used for comparison” unless the relevant technical architecture and processing practices have been verified.

Requests should be made through ProCheck's designated privacy/contact channel. Certain requests may be subject to legal, security, contractual or other lawful limitations.

Unless otherwise stated, ProCheck's website, software, branding, interface, reports, system design and other platform materials are owned by or licensed to ProCheck and may be protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.
Users retain ownership of their original documents and other material they lawfully submit, subject to any rights granted to ProCheck or its service providers that are necessary to provide the requested service.
Users must not use ProCheck to upload, process, reproduce or distribute material in violation of another person's intellectual-property or other legal rights.
No professional or institutional determination
ProCheck is a technology service and does not provide:
an academic misconduct determination;
a plagiarism adjudication;
legal advice;
institutional approval;
a guarantee of academic acceptance;
a guarantee of a particular grade or result; or
a guarantee that a document will not subsequently be flagged by another system or reviewed by an institution.
Where a matter has academic, legal, contractual or disciplinary consequences, users should consult the relevant institution, qualified professional or appropriate authority.
